I am currently at the Oregon coast in the USA and I’m enjoying the beach on sunny days and on rainy days. I like rain. This picture was taken back in 2015 when I visited this area for the first time.
As I seem to do every few years, I have updated the design of my website. For those interested, I changed from the Divi theme (Elegant Themes) to Author Pro (StudioPress). Personally I think this is the best look my website have ever had.
I didn’t change because Divi is a bad theme, in fact I still use it on another website and I will keep using it there. I couldn’t make it work for my website, with a stress on “I”.
Beyond changing theme, I also updated more or less all text across the website. Even most books have new descriptions that will come to the retailer sites when I have time to update there.
I also went through and deleted a lot of old blog posts, because I wanted to focus my website on my books and a couple of new blog series I’m adding to the website. I’m not ready to announce it all, but…
Picture of the Month is coming back! I hope you guys enjoyed it because I will start it up again in the next couple of months. It all depends on how much time I have to go through all the photos I have ever taken (with a digital camera).
Sounds like more than I need to re-start it? True, but I’m also doing it to declutter my photos so I might actually start looking at them. Just the thought of looking at 500 photos from only one vacation… It is too much. (There were a few years where I thought quantity with photos was a good thing… It turned out to be a recipe for never looking at them or showing them to other people. Opsie…)
You’ll still find the full archive of the previous Picture of the Month posts. A little more than a year’s worth. I’ve already started going through my pictures, and I can tell you I have some great ones for you.
I have another blogging series I mind, but until I have all my ducks in a row for that one, I’m not even sure it’ll happen. Hopefully it will.
That is basically it when it comes to this redesign, at least on the surface. The behind the scenes were pretty ugly at times.
I’ve been a little slow in my announcement of my publications, so I have several exciting projects to tell you about.
In November last year, Fiction River: Last Stand was released with my story “Magic and Sacrifice”. I co-edited that anthology with Dean Wesley Smith and it turned out extremely well. I am so happy with all the stories; they are all great. They all show case different kinds of last stands.
My story takes a lot of inspiration from the battle at Thermopylae. So few spartans, so many enemies. A classic last stand. I narrowed it down to one woman and one man fighting to save their country from invasion of a neighboring country. A high fantasy tale.
I highly recommend every story in this anthology. Dean and I had a blast putting this together. We had so many quality stories to choose from, a real embarrassment of riches. We get to share it in a volume I’m very proud of.
The second release announcement is also a Fiction River, this time called No Humans Allowed edited by John Helfers. An anthology filled with stories told from the point of view of aliens, animals, things and more, but not one story is told from the point of view of a human.
My story is called “The Game of Time” and it is from the point of view of a book, the Book of Time to be more exact. This is also a high fantasy tale and the start of a new fantasy world. The world/series doesn’t have a name yet, but it will.
The story is about what happens when the Book of Time makes a mistake and all the consequences that follow.
There are some really great stories in this volume (beside my own, of course ^_~). You don’t even have to trust just me. Tangent Online did a review of the volume. This is what they said about my story:

The last news for today are about another Fiction River anthology that will release at the end of June (so in a couple of days!). This one is called Editor’s Choice and is edited by Mark Leslie. And because publishing isn’t always straight forward, this is actually the first story I sold to Fiction River.
The story is called “The Blood is on the Wall” and is a military horror story. Quite different in some ways from what I normally write. Although since my fantasy tend towards the darker side, perhaps not that different.
It is about a woman who works as a UN soldier while vampires are trying to take over the world. When the story starts the vampires are precariously close to taking over the city where the soldier’s sisters live.
And once again I’ve read more or less all the stories in this volume too and I can’t recommend it enough. I actually recommend all Fiction River volumes if you enjoy quality short fiction and read widely across all genres. If you mostly read one or two genres, comment which ones below and I’ll tell you which volumes has mostly/only those genres.
Fiction River: Editor’s Choice will be available at all the common book retailers in a couple of days.
This is a dessert I sometimes bake for Christmas Eve, which is the day we celebrate Christmas in Sweden. The dessert in the picture was baked in November 2013. And I thought I’d give you the recipe. The recipe appeared in Swedish in the cookbook Lättlagad Julmat och Julgodis by Maud Onnermark. I translated the recipe.
The measures will be the Swedish ones since it is probably easier for you to change them to your preferred measures.
(dl = deciliter; cm = centimeters)
Saffron Dessert with an Almond Base
A frozen dessert with Christmasy flavors of saffron, cinnamon and cardamom.
Makes one dessert. Serves 10-12 people. (Or so the recipe says, my experience is that you don’t need that many people to finish it in one go)
150 g sweet almonds
1 1/2 dl powdered sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
3 egg whites
0,5 g saffron
3 dl whip cream
3 egg yolks
1 1/2 dl powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon pounded cardamom
Lightly thawed raspberries
- Put the oven on 175°C. Mix finely pounded saffron with cream.
- Clamp in place baking paper in a pan with removable sides (springform), 24 cm in diameter. Butter the pan.
- Finely chop the almonds in a food processor or with a knife, and mix with sugar and cinnamon. (You could also grind the almonds in an almond grinder.) Whip the egg whites into a hard foam and fold the almond-sugar into it. Spread out the mixture in the pan.
- Bake on the second slot from the bottom for ca 25 minutes.
- Whip egg yolks and powdered sugar fluffy. Add cardamom.
- Whip the saffron cream and fold into the egg mixture.
- Spread out the mixture evenly on the cold almond base. Cover with plastic wrap and put in the freezer for at least 3 hours.
- To serve, remove from freezer and garnish with lightly thawed raspberries. If the dessert was in the freezer longer than 3 hours, it might have to thaw slightly before cutting.

When I visited the Mission area in San Francisco, California, USA in November 2014, a new friend showed me around. One of the places she took me to was an alley with a lot of street art and murals. Each piece was different and such great art.
